Formula 1 triple world champion Max Verstappen recently found himself in an unusual and somewhat amusing situation.

While on vacation in Portugal with his family and friends, Verstappen wanted to rent a Mercedes AMG GT, but he was not allowed because he wasn’t old enough. According to the rules of the car rental agency, individuals under the age of 30 are not permitted to drive such high-performance vehicles, as the AMG GT has a maximum speed of around 310 km/h.

Despite being a three-time Formula 1 world champion at the age of 26, it seems that his status did not help him secure this particular car. In the end, he had to settle for renting a BMW 5 Series. He had initially reserved an AMG GT, but his age still posed a barrier.

“The employees in our Portuguese business simply respected the rules that exist for insurance. To find a solution on the spot, Mr. Verstappen was offered another premium vehicle,” said a source from the car rental agency.
