Frank Lampard has become a ‘surprise candidate’ to take over the leadership of the Canadian national team, according to a recent report. The English medium The Telegraph claimed that the Canadian Football Federation has placed Lampard on the shortlist of candidates ahead of the 2026 World Cup, where they will co-host with Mexico and the United States. The former England international has been unemployed since his unsuccessful stint as interim manager at Chelsea. The report further states that Canada aims to hold talks with Lampard, as the 45-year-old is eager to return to coaching if the right opportunity arises. Lampard spent a year in the United States at the end of his playing career with New York City FC, but he has never managed a team outside of the country. He has been seen attending England’s training sessions before friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium in March, as well as Chelsea’s matches. In a brief statement to The Telegraph, Lampard confirmed his intention to return to coaching. “I’m enjoying my time with my family and aiming to return to management at some point,” Lampard said.
