The German Football Federation and their sportswear cooperation partner, Adidas, have banned the sale of the national team jerseys with the number “44” due to their resemblance to the infamous symbols of the Nazi Party. Adidas officially announced the prohibition of personalized jersey options with names and numbers, while the German federation halted the sale of jerseys with the number “44” from official stores and is actively seeking an alternative design for the number “4”.The decision came after social media users pointed out the resemblance to the already prohibited symbol in Germany. Adidas spokesperson Oliver Bruggen denied that the similarity to Nazi symbols was intentional, stating, “As a company, we are committed to opposing xenophobia, antisemitism, violence, and hatred in any form.”Adidas told BBC that the German Football Federation (DFB) and its partners had designed the jersey numbers. In a Twitter post, DFB stated that the jersey designs had been submitted to UEFA for review during the design process and that “none of the parties involved saw any resemblance to Nazi symbolism.”
